Or at least it seems that way.<br>Because nothing happens to it for a while. The concrete looks fresh, there is no dust, no cracks or cavities. But sooner or later -.&nbsp;<strong>there are always problems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And not a minor one. If the concrete is not properly protected, the process of its degradation begins, which over time&nbsp;<strong>will cost you much more<\/strong>, than the expense of securing it already at the construction stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What happens if you don't cure the concrete?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Dusting - the beginning of the end<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unprotected concrete&nbsp;<strong>will always start to dust<\/strong>&nbsp;- is a natural process resulting from its microporous structure. At first it's barely visible dirt and residue. But then...<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Dust can be seen on products in stock,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>filters in production halls are clogging up,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Health and safety conditions are deteriorating,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and workers are literally starting to \"wear concrete on their shoes\" all over the facility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-style-default\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/decokoncept.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/USZKODZENIE_BETONU_4-scaled-e1745110431773.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-851\" srcset=\"https:\/\/decokoncept.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/USZKODZENIE_BETONU_4-scaled-e1745110431773.jpg 500w, https:\/\/decokoncept.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/USZKODZENIE_BETONU_4-scaled-e1745110431773-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/decokoncept.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/USZKODZENIE_BETONU_4-scaled-e1745110431773-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/decokoncept.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/USZKODZENIE_BETONU_4-scaled-e1745110431773-100x100.jpg 100w, https:\/\/decokoncept.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/USZKODZENIE_BETONU_4-scaled-e1745110431773-50x50.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why does concrete dust?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Concrete, despite its strength, has a porous structure that, without proper chemical curing, is vulnerable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mechanical abrasion<\/strong>: Foot traffic, vehicles or machinery cause gradual abrasion of the surface, leading to the formation of cement dust.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Carbonation<\/strong>: The reaction of carbon dioxide with calcium hydroxide in concrete leads to the formation of calcium carbonate, which weakens the surface structure and increases susceptibility to dusting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Penetration of contaminants<\/strong>: The lack of protection allows water, oil and other substances to penetrate and react with the concrete, causing it to degrade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is only surface curing (e.g., by the DST method) sufficient, without chemical curing with silicates?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don't.<\/strong>&nbsp;Surface hardening alone (e.g., with DST sprinkles)&nbsp;<strong>does not provide full protection for concrete in the long term<\/strong>. And if it is not supplemented with chemical curing, the floor will sooner or later begin to dust and degrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is being done in Poland \"instead\" of silicates?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>In Poland,&nbsp;<strong>instead of silicates<\/strong>, a popular quick fix treatment is often used after the concrete has been smeared:&nbsp;<strong>spraying of acrylic resin<\/strong>, commonly referred to by contractors&nbsp;<strong>\"stinker\"<\/strong>&nbsp;- Because of its intense, irritating odor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It forms a thin, transparent protective coating that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>early&nbsp;<strong>actually stops dusting<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gives fresh concrete&nbsp;<strong>light shine and aesthetic appearance<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>plus.<\/strong>&nbsp;in the resin layer&nbsp;<strong>rubber from forklift wheels blends in<\/strong>, co:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Creates dark, ugly footprints,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>spoils the aesthetics of the floor<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>is difficult or even impossible to clean<\/strong>, even by specialized means.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>But after a few weeks or months&nbsp;<strong>wear out under the influence of traffic and operation<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and then all that's left is&nbsp;<strong>\"raw\" concrete<\/strong>, which:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>begins to dust<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>absorbs water, oils, dirt<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Destroys quickly mechanically<\/strong>&nbsp;- scratches, cavities and chips are formed,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This solution is&nbsp;<strong>temporary, not cheap at all but popular<\/strong>, but&nbsp;<strong>From the point of view of durability and maintenance of the floor - very risky<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the surface, it has an effect, but&nbsp;<strong>doesn't solve the problem - it only delays it<\/strong>. In practice, this means the need for frequent cleaning, repair or refinishing of the floor after just a dozen months.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to do in this regard?
